I have my working son who lives with me and on ESA I had to pay full rent no help, but moving over to universal credit I get help which is £336.18p a month after taking off ,1 adult living with you who is expected to pay towards the rent-£93.02based on your household, we have decided you have 1 spare bedroom-£****.87.. Why is it so different ?

    Hi,

ESA never paid rent. Your old rent would have been paid via Housing Benefit. Housing Benefit was managed by your local council. The councils all choose their own rules for this. Universal Credit has the same rules nationally across the whole country.
