Hi, my name is JoyousB90! When should I let the DWP know about my knee operations?

I was awarded PIP about 3 months ago - 12 points in Mobility section.

Just had word that my first knee replacement (RIGHT) will be on 15 September, the second (LEFT) tba.

At what point do I let the DWP know about my 1st operation - before or after?

And, if anyone knows, does the same apply for ESA (Employment Support Allowance) ?

I have never claimed any benefits before so not really sure on what to do.

Many thanks, in advance.

Heya @JoyousB90 and a very warm welcome to the community. I hope you're managing to stay cool and hydrated?

With regard to your PIP claim, it's best to only advise them of a change of circumstance if you feel it would change the award you're receiving. As it could trigger a reassessment and that can cause your benefit to go up or down.

Thank you, it's hot in Northumberland l.

The first op won't really improve my mobility because both knees are bone on bone, so I'll hang fire for now.

    Thank you 👍
