It's International Dog Day! 🐩

Two dogs sleeping. They are surrounded by cushions and are cuddled up on top of each other. One is a light brown border terrier and the other is a black terrier mix. The border terrier's paw is draped over the other terrier's shoulder

Here we go again. Another excuse to share pet pictures, but who's complaining when they're this cute?!

International Dog Day was created in 2004 to celebrate dogs and encourage people to think about adoption and responsible dog ownership.

A black labrador Guide Dog leading someone along the road

It's also a great opportunity to celebrate all those dogs with jobs that help disabled people day to day. From Guide Dogs to service dogs and medical alert dogs, there are so many hard working hounds around helping to make the world a more accessible place for disabled people.

But of course, even those without official jobs can make a life-changing difference to your well being.

So in honour of this glorious day, please do share any pictures of your canine companions. Or anyone else's canine companions. All dog pictures are welcome here 🐕️

An excuse to post photos of dogs? Count me in!

A photo of a sandy dog sitting at a desk saying "I have no idea what I'm doing"

(This is actually a photo of me at work. )

Come on folks, let's see all your four legged friends. Or even photos of your friends' dogs will do. 😁

Rosie had written the discussion in advance, so it'll say whichever date it was started on @66Mustang but today is the doggo day!

It's great to see Jenson's doing well and is still being super helpful. 😊

This is Ozzy The Prince of Barkless - aka Bulldozer!!

Ozzy is a rescue off Facebook, as you can see from above he wasn’t in a good way when we rescued him in 2018.

He was the kindest, gentlest, caring and loveable big lump. He never barked, he had a bounce to his personality, he had a very beautiful soul. Let him off the lead and he runs like a Whippet, put him on the lead and he pulled like a Staffy.

Somehow inside his big granite head, he knew what mental health was. As he used to put his paws on the sofa and look me in the eyes as to say “Dad I’ve got you” then he would bury his head in my chest for a snuggle and ear rub. But one of the things that he did that meant the world to me is he would sit on the floor, flick my duvet with his nose (insomnia meant I slept on the sofa for three years) then look at me, then do it again and look at me, where then I would lift the duvet with my leg and he would get on the sofa behind my legs and sprawl out and go to sleep. I’d then just sit there running his ear through my hands.

Sadly I haven’t seen my boy since 2023 when my wife chucked my life up in the air like a box of Lego.

over the coming few years I’m going to get my flat sorted and hopefully register with an organisation for a trained assistance dog, or may apply for the dog house on channel four where they may be able to pair me with a suitable dog that I could train myself or work with an organisation.
