Migration From Legacy Benefits To UC

Hi fellow Scope members

Im On ESA IR & CB Support group. I also receive HB

I received my migration notice to move over to UC In June this year. I have until the 3rd of September to do this (Ive had a lot going on these past few months which has left me feeling absolutely mentally exhausted so will not be able to complete it by then)

Can I ask for some advice as to what I need to do next.

Do I need to call them on Monday to explain my situation? To be honest, Im not very good at talking on the phone these days and wondered if there was any other way of getting in touch with UC to explain my situation. Or, if I dont call them will I automatically receive a 4 week extension without the risk of loosing my SDP & EDP TP?

Im actually waiting for Citizen Advice to get in touch with me to arrange a face to face appointment with them to help me with my migration process that was arranged by my GPs surgery and have been advised that this appointment will probably happen by the end of September.

Also, Im due a housing benefit payment around the 5th of September. If I dont start my UC Claim by the 3rd of September will my HB payment still go through as normal? Or would UC have already written directly to them informing them of the date I was to have initially claimed UC by?

Same with ESA. If I havent claimed UC by the 3rd of September will my ESA payment go through on the 12th of September as normal? Or would UC have already informed ESA of my migration date beforehand?

Any advice would be much appreciated 😊

Morning @Kiki23 I'm sorry to read how you're feeling but completely get it. I know it's probably causing anxiety but I'd suggest contacting them asap to request an extension and they suggest to do this by telephone. Once done, hopefully you'll feel a bit more relieved and can focus on your Citizen's advice appointment 😊

Thank you Holly…I will call them first thing tomorrow. I also just wanted to know that even if they gave me an extension, would it mean I will still continue to get my ESA and HB paid in to my bank account as normal up until I start my UC claim??? Or would ESA and HB be stopped on the original cut off date mentioned in my original UC migration letter which is September 3rd regardless of having a 4 week extension???

Hi @Kiki23 if you've been granted an extension then that's agreed with them so shouldn't stop your current benefits 😊

Are you aware what the migration involves? It's not quite as draining as applying as a new applicant. It's more just formalities like proving who you are, agreeing to your commitments, and such.

I can't use the phone but had to migrate a few months ago. I did the forms online in about 15 mins then had a bit of to-and-fro on the messenger to explain I can't answer if they phone me so they organised a guy to come to my house basically just to make sure I existed.

What's more - this was useful to me - the online form is divided into about 8 chunks, so you don't have to do it all at once. You only need complete a section (which takes a few minutes, I think the longest was about 8 mins) in one sitting.

Admittedly I'm not on housing benefit so a bit less was needed in my situation

I hope this helps a little
