I jump when my brick phone vibrates! My landline is off as the ringing tone stresses me out. If there's a national emergency, I'm sure I will hear everyone screaming 🙉

I'd strongly suggest everyone has the alerts turned on if possible. They're there to give advance warning to various life threatening events. Sometimes by the time you can see or hear the commotion, it'll be too late to take action.

It's put in place to save lives, so please have a think about turning alerts back on. 😊

As long as you are not driving at the time - I can see some nervous (maybe NEW driver), perhaps at speed on the motorway, hearing the alert going off and fumbling for their mobile and causing an accident in so doing ?

Well we're not supposed to check our phones whilst driving, so hopefully that won't be an issue @Wibbles 😉

It's worth checking the government website, as they offer some good tips on planning for emergencies. I've picked up a nice little wind up torch/radio combo that'll be really useful.

I'm sure I've read that the alerts will still sound and vibrate even on phones that are on silent.

I can't get downstairs quickly (or at all for much of the day) and can't travel…so what sort of 'life saving action' would I be able to take anyway? None that I can think of…

Can't remember whether I got the last one, or whether I turned my phone off, or whether I turned all alerts off, but I am prepared for for it today just to see.

    Mine is turned off.

My wife's pet name for me is liability so seeing as I'm going to be using power tools today I think it's best for the Casualty department, Ambulance Service and my body 😂

My phone is almost always on silent (or vibrate) and the alert did still sound.

Interestingly, there are a few different models of handsets in my household, and some received the alerts and others didn't. One of my daughter's alerts were voiced, too.

I hope it didn't cause anyone issues and no one was taken too much by surprise.

I've both a smartphone and a basic phone. The basic phone didn't even vibrate. The government should provide everyone with a smartphone, I guess!

My wife is out with friends and apparently a bit of alcohol was wasted either on the floor or someone wearing it.

I don't care, I managed to keep my 6 fingers and one thumb intact so no mishaps because of a warning …

Is there anyway Scope could ask the government to consider a silent option of the emergency alerts? I’m noise sensitive so have my emergency notifications turned off to avoid distress. I’ve always wondered why I can’t still get the message without the siren?

despite 101 reminders from friends and online I still managed to jump when it went off because my phone also flashes and I don’t easily hear normal rings and notifications. I heard that one though!

I’ve got a few emergency items saved from previous camping. My portable solar panel and electric power station are my favourite emergency items. After that it’s lights, heat pads and sleeping bags.

I was watching netflix when it went off. Didn't make me jump as I was expecting it. I didn't get it last time

It just feels like more prodding and poking by the government, I switched my phone off.
