Posting your pip form

even though your pip form comes with a free post envelope I’ve been advised by friends not to use this envelope as it can get lost and you have no proof you sent it , can you send it so it needs a signature or tracked or similar and can you still use the free post address that’s in the little window on the envelope or use a totally different envelope

The only other option you have is to scan it and send it electronically.

In sending forms to DWP and their third-party minions, I've always used Royal Mail Special Next-Day Delivery. You get proof of posting and delivery before 1 pm next working day.
If you use the Freepost envelope or stick it on to a bigger envelope the cost of 2nd class post is deducted.
I used a different envelope.
It's expensive, I know, but it's some peace of mind at a nerve-wracking time.

Send it in the free post envelope provided and ask for a receipt of posting.

I can't get to a Post Office for Proof of Postage myself, so I just take a timestamped photo showing the forms half way in the prepaid envelope, and another with the envelope half way in the Post Box. Never lost any so far so can't say whether they'd accept that as proof but that's the best I can do.
Special Delivery is a waste of money. Tracked24 gives you exactly the same speed and tracking at much lower cost. You can also buy that online and have collected from your home if you can't get to a Post Office or Post Box.

I sent mine tracked 24 with a royal mail collection from my house. That way you get an email to say it has been collected, and another to confirm when it arrives at the DWP offices.

How do you arrange to have mail collected from your home? I can't walk to my nearest post box. I can take a taxi to the PO but have trouble standing.

You can arrange pick up from home via the royal mail website @Zipz it can all be paid for online, so you don't have to worry about stamps either. It's been super handy for me.

I just get proof of postage and photocopy what I have wrote on the form.

As Albus says, can just book it all online through the Royal Mail website. Collection was free for the last few years. But they have just started charging 30p for it. (Though that's probably still cheaper than a taxi.)
Note that an A4 envelope is classed as a Large Letter, not a Standard Letter.
