Wasn't sure where to post this.

@Catherine21 - you post where you want to, I'm only creating this in case others' want to either share their experiences, or if some are upset by the topic/detail.

I'm attaching a little poem that was read for my yorkie, Jack (also 15 years old) when he passed on Tuesday 12th January 2016. What was quite funny is the lady reading it, well her mobile went off halfway through and she asked if i minded that she answered it. I didn't and she kept it short then she resumed and said 'right, where was I, oh yes, Jack', it lightened the vibe and I had to stifle a laugh.

My Matilda (shih tzu) passed unexpectedly at the vets on Saturday 16th January 2016.

I took them (in their caskets) along with my surviving shih tzu, Mr. Jones, to stay at my sisters for the night in Wales on the 16th. It was surreal really.

I talk to them everyday at some point even if it's only good morning/goodnight and their names and light candles for them. It's my way of keeping my memories of them alive and a perfectly healthy way to honour them and the joy and love they brought to my life every single day of theirs.

They're still very much loved and missed and I cherish all the years I had with them, as I do my 4 dogs now.

I had printed out a card with a famous quote. ' My dear old dog, most constant of all friends' . William Croswell Doane. Framed it and it's got pride of place in the kitchen. That was after I lost my alsatian. I also bought him a rose , Remember Me. After I lost my little staffie a friend bought me the rose, A moment in time. We didn't have him long, he was elderly and poorly when I adopted him

Thank you. And they certainly do! I wasn't going to have more dogs and somehow, have 4 all 8 and 9 now. They enrich our lives so much, I feel very lucky to have them.

Aawww, that's beautiful but very poignant too: 'A moment in time' πŸ’œ.

When I got Jack and his mum Minnie from rescue she was only 5 but had kidney problems and lost her when she was just 7. Very kind-hearted of you to take in an older and poorly dog. The number going into shelters now is so heartbreaking to see.

@Santosha12 what a lovely poem and a wonderful shrine to your furry friends. Just to let you know I've had to block out the faces in your picture just for your protection 😊

This is a wonderful idea to share memories and the pain that comes with losing a pet. I know the feeling all too well. I hope that you and others can find some comfort here ❀️

Thank you so very much @Rachel_Scope, so sorry I don't know how that escaped my attention!

My shrine has each of their favourite toys, they liked watching Wallace & Gromit with me hence their little 'Gwendoline' modelsπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜….

Every Christmas they had turns each to come to either the garden centre or church fayre to 'choose' a Christmas decoration to go on the tree. They chose some strange things like in 2002 Jack chose a little knitted church mouse that still has pride of place at the top of the tree, with the spike of the tree going in unmentionable place 😊🀣. He put it in his mouth at the Fayre and wouldn't let go of it so he definitely chose it πŸ™„πŸ˜‚.

When I knew I was likely to lose Jack my yorkie, I held a 'Christmas Day' on the 25th of each month starting from August 2015 with their favourite foods, their presents, Christmas tree up etc. He didn't pass until 12th January 2016 so we had celebrated the day 5 times. I was glad to get the tree down that year!!

I didn't notice the little Gwendolines @Santosha12, that's so sweet. I love watching Wallace and Gromit - they had great taste.

I love that they had turns to choose a tree decoration, such a lovely idea 😍 Oh my goodness I love that you celebrated Christmas every month for Jack. He was clearly incredibly loved.

This was his last Christmas day morning. He was ok after using his inhaler but I had to show him/put it on the teddy bear everytime, first, for him to be agreeable ❀️ otherwise he'd be frightened and try and bite bu

t it really did work 🫠😍.

When he was euthanized my vet let me take his little tape machine in with Jack's favourite music on it to play beforehand/during. The first two songs being played were My heart will go on (as he loved 'Titanic') and A thousand years, Christina Perri. What I hadn't accounted for was it was around a total of 9 minutes as they're both quite long πŸ™„πŸ˜Š. My vet was to polite to roll his eyes or anything like that, it did seem incredibly drawn out in hindsight πŸ€£πŸ˜‚.

Well you've got me crying now πŸ˜‚ That's so lovely. What a great vet to let you do that, they clearly understand how important pets are ❀️

That's lovely Santosha. So kind of you to take a dog you know probably won't make old bones. As it turned out we only had my little staffie 4 months. He'd been in kennels for about seven I think. He didn't exactly ' sell himself ' so just kept getting overlooked. I'd not noticed him beforehand I'll be honest. But one particular morning he just looked at me , it was the way he did. Something in his eyes, I can't describe it. I'd never had a small dog, I like big dogs. A staffie wasn't on the radar at all. But I knew I'd got to ask about that black and white dog. I didn't even know what breed he was at that stage. He was a funny little thing, quirky. Didn't bark, he squawked. His nickname was Captain Squawk! And really gentle. very sweet. But he certainly lived up to the stubborn staffie reputation! If there was something he didn't want to do he'd just sit down and you wouldn't budge him! My biggest regret was that I hadn't spotted him sooner. But at least towards the end of his life he had his own settee and his own bed

Omg that is SO moving. That he had his last four months of his life knowing and feeling he was so loved well that is so very very special.

I am not exaggerating when I say that when they ever had to go in for surgery/stay over, I would take their little dictaphone and each had their own tape with their favourite music. I know they did play it for them as he'd mentioned once that they could tell I was singing along to one of the songs ha ha, how embarrassing (Diamonds are a girl's best friend, Marilyn Monroe) and they'd have had to play a few before they got to that one πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

All harmless fun, probably thought i was bonkers but least of my worries as long as they did what my dogs wanted but they've always been amazingly supportive. Music has always featured a lot in their lives and is their happiest times. This is their music equipment πŸ˜†πŸ€.
