Hi, my name is selkiefin! E-Scooters and University

hi there, I am about to start university (next week!) and I haven’t worked out how I will get around campus. I can’t walk that far when I’m fatigued.

Of course I’d be aloud to have an official mobility aid (e scooter / electric wheelchair) but right now I don’t have access to the funding to get a mobility aid like that and it simply would not fit in my tiny car. Alongside that I have a preference to use something more discreet.

so I am wondering if anyone has any experience of a university campus making an exception to the use of an e scooter on campus as it’s private land? (On highways they aren’t even legal so it’s certainly complex)

The ones I’m looking at have a seat. I would think about getting a mechanic to cap it so it can’t exceed 4mph which would help with health and safety I imagine.

any tips greatly appreciated ! I’ve only left a week to sort this 😅

Hi @selkiefin firstly, congratulations on your new University adventure! I am also a last minute person so completely get it! 😅 What are you studying if you don't mind me asking?

I don't have experience with scooters on campus myself, but we do have a few members who have great knowledge on different types of scooters so hopefully they'll be able to offer their advice.

I did notice you'd mentioned you were wondering if the University might allow an e scooter. Have you reached out to them to ask about this? They might have some knowledge specifically to your campus that might be helpful 😊

Hi @selkiefin, have you managed to find out about the e-scooter? Did you contact your University? Congratulations on starting university, very exciting!
