looking for a little advice regarding carers allowance. This is for a carers claim being made on my behalf. My suster has made a claim for myself for carers Allowance on 21st July 2025 to start from the 14th July 2025. which is still outstanding and awaiting payment. I also have received the letter confirmation a claim has been made. Waiting time were told is 9weeks. Due to personal financial circumstances and helping getting me to and from hospital and Doctor appointments as well as doing my everyday “running around she is stuggling money. This is more to do with paying petrol and other costs. I am struggling myself also so have compensated the best I can. the question is. all the government site and info say

You can ask for an advance if you’ve recently applied for:

  • Universal Credit
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • State Pension

Bit when she rang and asked they say they don’t do them.

It does say if it’s a new claim and awaiting first payment then you can.

Can you advise it this is the case. if so how we go about doing this as she is just getting stuck at the first hurdle as in the first advisor who says point blank. THEY DONT DO THEM

I am not an expert and I have never some across anyone asking for as advance of Carers Allowance but this certainly seems possible according to GOV.UK.

I would contact them again and explain that you have looked at the government website at

Get an advance on your first benefit payment: How to apply - GOV.UK.

which states that it is possible to apply for an advance. If they say that they don't do them I would ask to speak to a manager and direct them to the page on GOV.UK and ask them to explain why they won't give an advance. The person that you spoke to may have not been aware that this is possible or there may be criteria that your sister doesn't meet.

    Hi @lynsey122

That sounds like a frustrating and confusing situation.

Like Lauren29 said, it may be best to contact them again as it is also possible that the person you spoke just wasn't aware and gave you false information by mistake (especially if it says on the Government website that you are eligable) just to make sure you have a clear answer and that you're not missing out on support you may be entitled to!
