ESA to UC Migration - is it possible to cancel new style ESA and just claim LCWRA/Universal Credit?

Yes exactly it’s all the same.
Aww thanks that someone understands that it was just the budgeting for me that I couldn’t deal with. I did the migration calculation a few years back but I was ”shooketh” when I found out I was being transferred to New Style ESA and had a Claimant Commitment interview with the Jobcentre. Even they said that this doesn’t make any sense.
My previous background working for the DWP was a benefits processor for new claims and change of circumstances for Jobseekers Allowance. Dabbled in some Lone Parent, ESA and New Claims Interviews but learnt more over the years about ESA on the Benefits and Work website and on here.
I see that B&W have added additional updates based on their last email dated 24/9/2025.The updates include:
- New section: You were NOT receiving contribution-based ESA, but the DWP have now told you that you will receive New-Style ESA (page 53)
- New section: You are receiving New-Style ESA and UC at the same time and are finding this confusing (page 54).
- New section: The amount of New-Style ESA being deducted as income from your UC is different to what you actually receive (page 54)
This is in the annual paid subscription guides for anyone interested. (I don’t know if I am allowed to discuss that here… apologies if I am not).

I wasn't allowed to just claim UC i had to take on NEW STYLE aswel so i am stuck with the 3 benefits. I didnt even know i was on contribution until the UC change over paper came which annoyed me abit as there were no caps £6000 £16000 so could of earned a lot of interest on my money. With the 2 benefits i get roughly the same money as i did just on ESA old type
Glad your all sorted now
