PIP Review Out of the Blue Phone Call

Hello all,

I received an "out of the blue" phone call from PIP, asking if he could ask me a few questions about my recent PIP review application, which I sent back to them in June.

He was very nice and the call lasted about 30 mins and went through the same questions on the form and gave the same answers.

I didn't ask him what should happen next, as I forgot. Now I'm a bit confused.

Does anyone know what I should expect from this out of the blue call? Is it normal to get random calls from PIP?

Thank you for your help

It sounds like you have had a paper based assessment.

This is where the assessor feels they have enough information to make a decision without a full assessment.

This can involve minimal (as in your case) or even no further input from the claimant. Calls are made at random.

You should receive the outcome in due course.

You have the option of asking PIP for a copy of the assessment report in advance of the outcome.

Hello Kimi87, thank you for your response.

I did send them all my updated medical records, medications, hospital reports and cover letter etc in June.

He did say that he had plenty of information at the end of the call, but he never mentioned if it was an assessment, he just said he wanted to ask questions.

Do you know how long it takes to get a response?

Should I call the PIP helpline number on Monday and ask for the assessment report and what was the purpose of the call or is that too soon?

Thank you again for your time :)

Official timescales are anything up to 12 weeks for a decision. Some hear within days, others are waiting a few months.

By all means you can ring PIP Monday to see if they have the assessment report available.

It could have been an assessor from an external agency, or possibly a DWP Decision Maker as not all claims/reviews get sent out.

He said he was a case manager from the DWP, and the call was from the 0800 023 2635 number, but he didn't say it was an assessment, he just wanted to ask me questions about my PIP review claim.

I will call them on Monday and ask them what it actually was, as I was a bit confused.

    Thank you again Kimi

I agree with Kimi, it sounds like you sent in enough information for theassessor to progress a Paper based Assessment. Sometimes you are not contacted, but you were to clarify some points. This is what has happened in your case and it is doubtful you will be called for a long phone assessment. It is was a case manager and he was happy with all the information, it sounds promising. Sounds like the decision letter is next.

    Hello all,

    You were all correct.

I received a text message on Monday morning, saying that the PIP Review is complete.

I called the enquiry line and they have mentioned that the letter I will receive in 2 weeks will state that both my enhanced PIP claims will continue for another 4 years and that I do not need to do anything else.

Paper Based assessments are great, as long as you send in ALL medical reports, GP notes, repeat medications along with a very detailed PIP review form. Better to send to much than not enough.

Thank you all who commented and help me understand the Paper based assessment process.

    All the best

This was the DWP seeing if they could do an in house paper assessment.

Reviews don't always get sent to an external assessment agency.

Yes that means you had a paper based assessment.

It's increasingly common for the DWP to do reviews in house without using an external assessment agency.

    hi

I had the same thing happen to me on Monday. Got my review forms in July. Didn't get them back to them until late August as I needed help filling them out over a few different days. Anyway, posted them and didn't hear anything else until Monday when I got a call asking me to confirm a few things. At the end of the call I was told they would be able to extend my reward. I got the text that my review was complete yesterday. I called them just to make sure and it was all correct. I hope this encourages you. when I was speaking to them they also said well done for answering the phone because if I hadn't been able to she would have had to send to an assessor to get the answers she needed and that would have prolonged it for a few more months

Give them a ring if you can. It will help to clarify it all for you.

    best wishes
