Royalty payments
I need some advice ASAP. Our son gets royalty payments and had permitted work on ESA. He migrated last month and his statement is due the 20th. I asked the lady who confirmed my ID as his appointee how to report any payments and she said on his journal through the payments section. After doing so yesterday they replied saying it was fine as it was under £6000. However he will normally have a royalty payment every month. I am aware he can only earn £411 beforeaffectinghis benefits. I'm not convinced that I have reported it the correct way, not sure if anyone can give me some advice please.

Hi,
It sounds like it's been reported as savings rather than earnings. Is that what's happened?

Yeah I think the same. I did reply yesterday and point out that I was unsure how to log/report this. I have had a reply today to ask is it going to be the same payment each month or will it fluctuate. It will fluctuate and my sister who is an accountant does his accounts and has him registered with HMRC just in case he goes over the £1000 limit. I think it should of gone down as self employed even though he isn't actually working and is in the LCWRA group. He doesn't make music anymore, ESA just put it down as an hours work a week to cover any payments.

Ok. I believe royalty payments should be classed as unearned income. So he doesn't actually need to be down as self-employed in order to receive them.
I'm not sure whether the UC online system has a specific section to allow for this situation though. Hopefully the journal staff will be able to find a suitable solution.

Yeah somone has been back in touch to say just log it in his journal as soon as he recieves any money and declare the payment. I have also taken a screen shot of the reply just in case I needed to contact them down the line. Thank you for your help.
