HI, im new to this site but i am looking for help from people with different disabilities
I really need help and insight from people with different disabilities and I have heard this would likely be the best place to ask this.
the reason I need help is because I am autistic and I get quite annoyed that every piece of media I see with disabilities tend to be shown to an extreme extent and I wanted to change that so I started writing a game that allows people to play as different disabilities to then understand that it is not always to an extreme extent or to show people without the disabilities what it really is like but I know that if I am going to do this then I want to do it to the best of my ability.
so the help I need is as much insight as I can get into what its like with the 4 disabilities I have gone with and tbh I feel bad asking but I would rather try and ask to have a better chance at getting it right rather than guessing and plus if I can get this to work then I would plan to include more in a future project.
also for when I actually start making the game what I am going to keep secret is that for each disability that I use, I would like to donate some of the profits to charities and kind of split it between the 4 disabilities used which at the moment I am looking at including partial blindness, partial deafness, Tourette's and schizophrenia so i am sorry if i have stepped over any lines and if anyone does help and wants to withdraw their input then that is 100% okay i just wanted to try make sure i do this right.

That sounds like a really interesting project @Skitsocat. Is the game you're making a video game or a board game?

basically its going to be a digital game and im not sure how to actually respond to comments on here but basically i planned to make a game showing what people with disabilities actually go through and how like it works as its very different to whats shown in media so i said i will make a digital game that shows what its really like and it gives people without the disabilities a chance to see what it is actually like and hopefully gain some experience so they dont guess and make assumptions
so i asked myself whats the best way to do this and get it out there and that was to try to talk to people with the disabilities and use documentaries and videos and actual interviews and articles to make sure there is proper representation and to draw in as many people i have put it in the horror genre but non of the enemies have disabilities only the playable characters do so ive tried to put it in a setting people may want to play in and then people through playing the game will find out things about the disabilities maybe even without noticing which i hope isnt too bad

Hi Skitocat
I'm Mark I have multiple disabilities. I have anyklonsing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis. I also gave paranoid schizophrenia and ADHD.
I have the same experience as you with the press always focusing on attacks when the aggressor has paranoid schizophrenia. We're all not like that, it's done by people who have fallen through the mental health system and nolonger on medication. It really annoys me.
I'm very proud of my disabilities as I don't let them define me. I talk about my mental health a lit especially when in psychosis and ask for help. I also help.other people with disabilities know their rights and help them to change people's perception of how they view people with disabilities.
Welcome to the community as well.

Thank you @MarkGibbons1 and thank you for sharing this because i was unsure if anyone felt the same about it or if it was only a few people.
i know some people do not like talking about their disabilities as well as experiences and symptoms they experience so if you would be open to sharing anything that would be very helpful and if you would rather not then that is completely understandable as i am just trying to find people who have experience rather than just use my education that i had as a topic in a subject i did was schizophrenia so i got to learn about causes, symptoms and interviews but i thought it would be better to talk to real people rather than use a school textbook or only secondary research so that when i get to the making stage that i ensure that i get everything as accurate to real life as possible.
Thank you! :)

Hi Skitsocat
You're welcome, has I said I don't mind talking about my disabilities especially if it dispells the myths around them.
It is good to find people who feel tge same way. The media have a lot to answer for. So you studied schizophrenia was that at uni? I'm well up on mine has had it all my life so have a good insight into it.
TThank You for listening.
