Any possibility to access emergency cash?
Hi all.
I am at my wits end as I need emergency cash for broken items, rent and a lot more than that.
I have applied for the budgeting loan and that has helped a few bits, but I am still in serious trrouble.
I don't have any family and no friends don't seem able to help, are there any other alternatives? I have Autism and receive UC, don't know if that is any help, but they are my circumstances.
Thanks

Hi @NewTime I'm sorry things are tough at the moment. It might be worth speaking to the DWP again to see if they can support further. Alternatively, contacting someone like Turn2Us might be able to support. They've a website specialised in grants to support - Apply for Grants | Turn2us but you could call them too.

Hi Holly.
I’ve gone through DWP twice and they don’t seem to be able to offer any further help. I’ve already had the budgeting loan, I assume they would just point me in the direction of another organisation and I don’t have time to wait around and don’t think it would help sadly. Is there any help you believe they could offer past a budgeting loan?
I’ve used the grant site at turn2us and I can’t find anything that really suits me or I would be able to apply for?0 -

Sorry to hear. Did you pop all your information in on the Turn2Us grant search? There are some additional charities on this link who might be able to support with white goods replacement for your broken items - Where to get help to buy white goods and furniture | Turn2us
Have you looked into a discretionary housing payment to support with rent?

There are two white good that need to be replaced, but I have problems with rent mainly and cash itself to pay off other bills.
I have gone through council for DHP and they decline it because I don’t get the housing element of UC, but I was advised not to get housing element as I would be worse off as I transitioned to UC a few months ago. The amounts aren’t much different but it shows at transitional rather than housing. I don’t think that could be fixed in the next few days to receive any potential help
I will look at the link you have provided now, thank you

That sounds like very strange advice.
Housing Element is usually the same for most people migrating from ESA to UC.
How much Transitional Protection do you get now? And how much Housing Benefit were you getting before?

My total for UC each month is like £1050 as I have a disability.
But I’ve never claimed any sort of housing element or benefit before, but advice I received on another forum is that I would receive the same amount of money regardless and it would take time.
So I hit accepted the TE as didn’t want the hassle. But when I put things in calculators, it doesn’t come up with the same amount I receive now for either TE or housing

Ok. I think you've had some bad advice there unfortunately.
If you're a single person over 25 then basic UC is £400. Plus £423 for LCWRA (disability).
That means you're only getting around £227 a month in TP. I assume your rent is quite a lot more than that each month?
So you would most likely be better off getting Housing Element. I don't understand why you've been advised against that.

the amounts you aren’t right, so here is a breakdown:
Standard allowance: £400.14
Transitional protection: £619.71
I receive PIP at enhanced daily living and standard mobility
When I put all of this through calculators, it does tell me that I should get less, but these amounts were the same on JSA.

my rent is £510 a month.

I have just put this through the calculator and it says I should receive more. I don't think that is true if I am honest.

Sorry, it seems I can't edit the post above and it is taking some space up.
Standard Allowance: £400.14 (same as I currently get)
Housing: £438.59 (Do not get this currently)
Disability: £0 (Do not get this currently anyway)
Transitional Element: £619.71 (they asked if I got this and i entered this amount)
Am I losing out?

If you now claimed Housing Element your award would look like:
Standard Allowance £400.14
Housing Element £438.59
Transitional Protection: £181.12
Out of your total personal UC £581.26 you'd need to top up your rent by £72.

Well this makes it all very confusing, doesn't it? I have gone through calculator and it still gives me the full TE element

Transitional Protection is added if your total UC award is lower than legacy benefits at the time of transfer. This erodes over time as other elements go up with annual uprating or new elements are added.
Your TP would reduce by the Housing Element amount.

This is what I was trying to explain (not very well, clearly) that I have been told previously that it would effectively be the same amount. But to get the DHP, it would need to show housing element and I do not know if it if worth the hssle as it would take weeks anyway.
So I don't know why Turn2us is asking me to enter the amount of TP I get currently? As it seems they are just adding it on?

You're also missing out on the disability allowance. That is what my calculations were based on. That would give you an extra £423 a month if you were eligible for LCWRA.
Have you told UC about your health conditions? And have you had a Work Capability Assessment at all?

I am ticking the right boxes when it comes to disability and I believe UC are aware, but I’ve not got the LCWRA as never had assessment

Are you still handing in fit notes regularly?

Well, after posting this I don't feel better about anything because I feel like my Universal Credit might be wrong. Also, I am worried about going through another assessment if I have potentially got it wrong.
I have Autism and get Enhanced Daily living and standard mobility, but I not not supply anything to Universal Credit, I just accept the amount that I get and in terms of this, it was the same as what I was on when I was on JSA.
The problem is that I know people who get benefits like I do and they also get their housing on top and I do not know if I should.
If anyone can help with the calculation and anything else that would be great.

I am not handing in anything - I just accept the calculation.
How would I get the LWCRA?
