Does this mean your fixed direct debit is an estimated payment based on your predicted annual energy use and your supplier collects your meter readings periodically, if possible monthly if you submit them every month, they calculate your actual usage and If you've used more energy than you've paid for, they increase your direct debit, unless your account is in credit, and thus they take the diffrence from your credit, which is my case?
Or do you only pay £53 per month no matter how much electricity and/or gas you've used?

I get a bill, and i pay it. Anything else comes second.

I pay that throughout, I have a smart meter, which sends reading daily. So there able to let me know if I'm not paying enough. I'm in credit. With their app you can see how much you spend on electricity and gas daily ,monthly and Yearly

Remember, a good few years ago, people used to pay only the fixed direct debit amount and nothing else later on. That was a real fixed tariff. That means £53 every month no matter how much electricity and/or gas you would have used.

How are you only paying £53 a month? Unless you mean £53 each?
The standing charges alone for mine (EDF) are £1.00 per day, so that's £30 a month BEFORE any usage, my direct debit is £120.00 a month and I'm considered a low user too.
In the winter it's costing about £4.00 a day.

My Standing charge for gas and electricity is £23. 88 further last bill, 13th sep to 12 Oct., my usage of electricity came to £15.44 and gas was £3.45

I'm an EDF customer with electricity only
I pay: £30.02 on the 1st of each month by Direct Debit - Direct Debit (Fixed)
Standing charge: 46.20p per day
Unit Rate: 20.92p per kWh

One of my neighbours is obsessed with her smart meter, she even sits in the dark with the heating off, she then complains to me about the daily standing charge!
That is why I never even took the display screen contraption out of the box. If my washing machine is in use, I can hardly just say 'oh no, too much usage today', and turn off the machine. If I need heat or light, I will have it; no point driving myself mad staring at the screen.

That’s true, tone can definitely get lost in writing and misunderstandings happen. But I was more referring to those situations where it’s pretty clear someone’s being snarky or insulting, and then they hide behind the ‘just my opinion’ excuse.

I remember 50p electric metres and 50p tv sets remember renting tv no one really owned anything back in the day that's how they want it again you will own noting and be happy

Mine is around £120 a month now too. All electric here. Single person in a small flat. I'm even on a specific 'low income' tariff apparently. I'd have to switch off the hot water permanently to get anywhere near £50 a month! 😲

I'm starting to think I'm being ripped off or something is wrong with my energy bills as it's nearly £200 a month?! I don't use heating and it's just me here 😮

Is your place all electric? And does it use a tank with immersion heater for hot water? That is where the majority of my electric goes.

That doesn’t sound right!?Mine is £133 a month and there’s three of us and I feel we use a lot of stuff. My mum is on her own and pays £70 a month and is in credit by about £250.

Gas combi boilet (whatever that means!!!) so gas for hot water and heating and then electric for everything else I think. I just double checked my statement and for last month it says electric use was £153 and gas was £42 - maybe I watch too much TV or something 🤣

Hmm I probably need to look into my tarrif or supplier or something because I just figured it was normal as everyone moans about energy prices
