hi can anyone advise me please.i currently live in 2 bedroom bungalow that has no wheelchair access at front when i moved here 10 yrs ago we had to be disabled to get one.obviously my health over 10 yrs as got worse I’m on morphine now etc.an OT refused a ramp at the back rear garden and my back gate opens onto a grass verge onto garages that has no lights that I tried to get lighting but was refused even though that’s how the bin men collect our bins ..I’m part paralysed in one leg so need scooter etc but when my scooter gets on the grass when I open my gate in the winter months I just wheel spin get stuck or can’t get out I’ve asked for 6 slabs so I can drive out my garden to reach the road but was refused this is the only way I can get out my property so have to wait for my hubby to be home at weekend to help me .the rest of the week I’m trapped in my home & garden .i have fell twice and reported it with the uneven but still nothings been done.they want me to move ..my hubby offered to pay for the slabs and work to be done but the council refused us doing anything.my sons got autism he will be so traumatised moving him out the area and there are no more 2 bed bungalows other than ours and neighbours in this area .so my only option I was told was we would have to move out and I can’t do this the OT said if I move they would adapt a property if needed yet won’t adapt mine I’m confused I love my bungalow I’ve spent thousands with garden and inside.my drs here know all my medical issues and my sons and I know my son won’t go to see other drs if we move.i recently found out from my neighbour she’s having ramps yet they refused me??? she’s alone in 2 bed they doing that for her and me and my son both disabled get refused am I being discriminated against ??

    Hey, welcome to the forum.

It sounds to me very spiteful and bizarre how they will adapt a new property pointlessly rather than the one you're in and happy with, I'm not too great with the legalities but it does sound like discrimination and at best awkward and unfair treatment,

From what I can see is they're refusing needs not wants but needs and this is stopping you living the life you deserve, if you're wheel spinning and stuck in winter and there is poor lighting that's outright dangerous to you and I think you deserve better and a serious written complaint to all concerned at the very least is required. why should you and your family move causing enormous stress and inconvenience? absolutely wrong!

    edited for typos.

Hi @Mrs, that sounds so incredibly frustrating, I'm sorry you've been treated that way. As Nightcity said, perhaps it's time to put in a complaint about all that's happened.

It may also be worth speaking with your local councillors or MP to see if they can advise you or make some calls to the council on your behalf:

You shouldn't have to move house when a simple adaptation would make things much easier for you. Hope you can find some support and get it all sorted.
