"AI" Friend or Foe

Hi

I'm 73yrs of age and witnessed the birth of things like colour TV's, Video tapes, compact disc's mobile phones, computers, gaming consuls. Film's using "CGI" (Computer generated image) along with flat screen TVs with multiple channels. ECT. Hell, I can still remember when cassette tapes were the "in thing". Now we have the birth of "AI" and all its wonders. There are those that think it to be some sort of monster and are wary of it

I see it as another wonder to witness. Although it will have its "pitfalls". But so did the other things I've mentioned, but they turned out OK. Didn't they?

I don't think AI is in the same league as any of the previous tech. Things like cassettes, CD's, colour TV, games consoles, etc are all 'fixed'. The difference with AI is that it's fluid, it's always trying to learn and adapt and change in ways that we can't necessarily control. It's also so easy now to make something look real that isn't - even the best CGI never fully managed that. The potential pitfalls of AI are far greater than any other tech so far in my opinion.

It does have the power to do amazing things that were never possible before…but whether it will be used for good or not is the main question. We've seen most tech end up being used negatively for warfare etc…

I don't particularly like or trust it, however unfortunately eventually it won't be ignorable.

I saw a documentary a while ago where someone showed how easily it could be used to set someone up for confessing to a series of crimes on a voicemail, perfecting their voice, that can't be a good thing!

Don't be afraid of AI. Like all new things it can and will be used for bad as well as good.

How many people can now "live" without a mobile phone? Yet it brings, scammers, and crime… PC's, - the web and email do the same. There are and always will be those that take and use new technology for "evil" but, we cannot let them stop use moving forward.

I find it fascinating, exciting, and I believe a lot of good things can come from it, like cures for things and very cool tech, etc when it becomes more advanced. The things it can already do now makes it feel as though I could be living in the future.

Like with all things there are positives and negatives to it, but a lot of people just like to cherry pick what they think is just 'bad' and that's all there is to it and what doesn't go into that same category. Not that I'm accusing anyone of doing that in this topic, I'm thinking more about the really strong hate Ai gets in the comments sections on Youtube videos and Youtube videos themselves. People have always been scared of things that are new. 'The sky is falling!' indeed.

I think AI is here to stay @Dragonslayer! I think if it's correctly then some really exciting and ground breaking positive things could come from it!
