PIP Back - payment
Hi,
I have received my PIP award & I have received enhanced ( after all that panicking & stress ).
I have a received back - payment, that would take me slightly over the threshold of £6000 .With it being a back - payment,do I need to inform UC & how do I go about it?

PIP backpay is disregarded from counting as UC capital for one year.

I personally didn't when I got my PIP backpay, but that was my choice.
I believe when you report capital there is a section to list any disregarded benefits backpay.

Was your actual backpay over £5000??? Just to let you know, If your backpay was over £5000 it will be disregarded indefinitely, or atleast whilst you are claiming UC. If its was less than £5000 it will be disregarded for 12 months. You do still need to inform UC of the amount though

Ahhh so as the backpay was under £5000 it will be disregarded by UC for 1 year then

Thanks for your answers. I am still unsure whether to report it or not. My head is totally frazzled,as I am dealing with the sudden death of my brother and my head is all over the place.
Thanks everyone.

I'm really sorry for the loss of your brother @MadCow1. I hope you've got a lot of support around you?
If you report the change to your savings/capital, be sure to do it with a note explaining that you believe it is disregarded due to being PIP backpay, just to be really clear for them.

You should report your total capital now as it's over £6000. And put the backpay on the page for disregards. This shouldn't make any difference to your payments and personally I wouldn't even bother with a journal message as they don't seem to read them anyway.
The reason for reporting the whole amount now is so that it doesn't cause problems if & when you get reviewed in future. (There are so many of these reviews happening that there's a high probability of all of us getting reviewed eventually).
Please be aware that you may be asked to take bank statements in to your local Job Centre to confirm that it is backpay and the date that it entered your account.
