I don't care what it lines up with, just stating what i've personally witnessed from people in my life.

The thing is, they still would need to qualify for PIP. So no matter their intentions for applying, they still qaulify, so it is an issue really?
Those renting their Motability cars out are another subject altogether and an issue Motability should be addressing. I don't know how common it is though since it is not allowed.

Its more lying and saying stuff that isn't true in order to obtain a car.
Like theres no problem with being given Pip, but the person in question purposely said things on their app to secure points for the sole reason they could get a free car. When they don't even have the conditions they said.

it would appear that quite a few people assume that if you have a blue badge then you have a motability car which is not the case. Therefore, some of these so called luxury cars have been bought outright by the person with disabilities. A lot of people with disabilities work and can afford to buy a car. I have a 10 year old SUV which suits my needs and was bought before I became chronically ill, however it might be that because I have a blue badge and an SUV it must be a motability car.

The British cars sadly became an international embarrassment. I had a Rover SD1 3.5Litre, and it was some sort of sick joke to claim it would rival BMW and Mercedes. ( It still had drum brakes on the rear wheels!) The 16mpg wasn't all that impressive either.

The A3 is an awful car. Surely that's not being classed as luxury? I had one for a few months, was glad to be rid of it!

One of my brothers passed his driving test, first time, aged 17 in the early 80s. He'd been saving from his apprentice wage and bought a, possibly seventh-hand, Allegro. The family joke was to ask him how many gallons per mile it was using! 😂

They might be nowadays, my last A3 was 2007, and it was definitely a posh VW Golf.

Not a patch on the old Audi 80. They don't build them like that now.

I've just done a bit of research on it. They're dropping 'premium' cars - just meaning they cost more. Not that they're actually luxurious!

They should do. You can still get a VW Polo GTI. Over 200 bhp and 2 litre engine. I know that because that was my final Motability car! I started driving with a Polo too.

They appear to have dropped whole brands rather than individual models.
Interestingly they've left Cupra - which is Seat's sports division. Can still order a 270bhp Cupra Formentor! (Although the AP is £7,995)

We used to be able to have a Jag or Land Rover on Motability. I remember picking up my Vauxhall Astra and asking the salesman what he thought about it, and he said that in his opinion, anyone with £10,000 spare as an advance, they should buy a car themselves. I found myself agreeing with him.

Golf GTE is still available too. Same 270bhp auto hybrid setup as the Formentor.
Can also get full EV Ford Mustang or Capri with electrical equivalent of around 280bhp.
Regarding the AP, it's possible that some people have it because of PIP backpay. If they'd been waiting a year or more for PIP results it does add up. I wasn't awarded Enhanced Mobility myself (sore point, best not get started on that haha) but did get enough backpay to finance a new car for 3 years. As it happened, it was too little, too late. If I'd had access to Motability a year earlier, I might still be driving now.

It doesn't 'grind my gears', but i just think that there is no good reason to have high end cars on the scheme.
As long as there are options available in all relevant categories, a bog standard motor will do the business just as well.
I was tempted with that GTI, simply because it was available, but the basic 1.0 Polo with automatic transmission would have sufficed.
