Hi, I was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia at birth? Unfortunately, I was born before the internet. I cope fairly well with the physical side but its the psychological side which has affected me the most. I think I am fully aware of the psychological side now but it has destroyed by life. Anyone else have any experiences on the psychological side? Im sorry to say, I think Doctors are a complete waste of time in regards to Spastic Diplegia and the psychological side. Basically, I need to tell them but if I tell them, I know, so knowing the problem is the solution. Its just getting to that stage

    Hi @Karl12,

I am sorry things feel tough right now. You are not alone—many people with cerebral palsy face mental health challenges.

You might like to join our CP Network. It’s a place to meet others and share experiences.

I understand seeing a doctor can be hard, especially after a bad experience. The NICE guidelines for cerebral palsy include helpful information about mental health.

You could also think about counselling. Disability Plus offers counselling led by disabled counsellors. You may be able to get funding for free sessions.

    Take care,

    Lucy

I grow up before any of this was even talked about. It has destroyed by life. However, I only realised as I conected the psychological side myself. I find doctors a waste of time. I think it's better to make the connections yourself. As you will know personally what is true and what is a waste of time. I can only speak about spastic diplegia. It does take a lot of inner searching. I do feel an extreme amount of anger towards the medical profession

I would not personally go to counselling but as I view it as problem identification or something you have not seen. I.e. the psychological side of Spastic Diplegia. When you know you start to observe more

I like solving problems but I was not expecting to solve my own problem. I think there is an overlap with other psychological conditions in the same general classification but I personally would not stick too rigidly to a classification. I would view them as a guide only - which means if if it don't fit ignore it.
