Can I get UC housing element if I receive New Style ESA?
I would like to rent a wheelchair accessible house so would need to apply for the housing element of UC to cover the difference. I am currently receiving UC (LCWRA), new style ESA and PIP. Would any of my other benefits stop me being about to receive the housing element? My ESA amount gets deducted from my total UC amount which I understand but the housing part is confusing me.
Could anyone advise on how it works please?

You would be able to apply for Housing Element.
On the day you move in, you would report a change in address and housing costs.
That Assessment Period you would qualify for Housing Element.
Housing Element would be added to your UC entitlement, before deductions.
How much you'd be awarded depends on the number of bedrooms, and whether you will be renting privately or social housing.
Private renting would be capped at the Local Housing Allowance rates which often don't cover the full rent.
As you get PIP if you will have a spare bedroom you may be able to get extra Housing Element to cover one additional room. The requirements are to be receiving regular and frequent overnight care.

That is really helpful, thank you. I'm going to privately rent in order to find something suitable I think. I'm looking forward to next May when this new Renter's Bill comes in and landlords can't discriminate against tenants on benefits. Hopefully there will be more housing options then.
