UC and one off payment
Hi
My mum received a letter about an underpayment in her tax credits claim from years ago and after she phoned tax credits up it was a real letter and she's getting a one of payment of £162 but it says on the letter to let the DWP know however I've also been told that as she has less than 6k capital she doesn't actually need to tell them so does she have to tell them or not? She would prefer not to as she hates using her journal and is always nervous of contacting them?

Hi @SandT. That's correct, as long as her savings don't go over £6,000 she doesn't need to let them know. Hopefully that'll put her mind at ease.

Hi, this is probably just a standard letter that would cover much larger amounts. She really doesn't need to declare £162 of backpay.
