Autism is not caused by "bad parenting"

My mum was amazing , she passed in 2017. I have dyslexia and autism. When I was at primary school mum noticed I couldn't read words on a leaflet we were given by the mobile dentist. School never bothered. So mum taught me to read . I was 5 , my reading improved, despite I mis read things still. Autism is genetic, my daughter has it, diagnosed at 14. Although I noticed when she was small. But no one took me seriously. Especially primary school. The sen teacher didn't believe in it.
I myself was diagnosed age 55 , 59 now. I struggled my whole life.

Anyone who thinks autism is down to bad parenting should spend the weekend with my grandson! I think they'd soon change their mind. He's got major issues. I'll be honest, I can't cope with him sometimes but both his parents have got the patience of a saint.

this is interesting - and yet, reading through my own later in life full autism diagnosis report, other people did mention “poor parenting” as a reason why I was considered “too vocal” in later life and hinting at lack of proper/strict enough parental discipline in childhood - I really feel that this is yet another reason why a full face-to-face post-diagnosis autism assessment, regardless of the diagnostic methods and/or criteria used, must be carried out as a basic legal requirement, especially for those of us who were diagnosed over Zoom, as I was in 2021 - instead what we have, rather than the help we need from those who simply refuse to understand and acknowledge the challenges that we face from our conditions, we are actively silenced and actively prevented from accessing the help and support that we need, even to the point of putting out articles and putting out the idea that “all mental health and hidden disability issues are (somehow) fake” and that we are (somehow) “pretending” to have the conditions that we have (that was said to me online) - I’ve covered this in another thread on here - I honestly feel that we really do need to speak the raw and unvarnished truth based on the reality of our own lived life experiences, no matter who it may offend, in the hope that someone will finally listen to us, take us seriously and finally help us

Dyslexia is not a condition, so those identified as having the dyslexia symptom need to be referred to the required multi-discipline assessment team of an Audiologist, Optometrist, and Psychiatrist; who are trained and qualified to assess the three possible underlying cognitive cause(s) of an individuals dyslexia symptom :- Auditory Processing Disorder, and or Visual Processing Disorder, and or Attention Deficit Disorder.
There are no cures for these lifelong disabilities, the only option is to identify the alternative compensating skills and abilities each individual dyslexic may have developed since birth to work around their lifelong cognitive limitations, and have teachers adapt their teaching methods to match each individuals learning style.A case study of an English-Japanese Bilingual with monolingual dyslexia
