Can AI replace humans?

My friend has started using AI every day for when she feels a bit stressed about something. She says it's working for her which is great, but I personally would rather talk to a real person. AI is getting very good at showing understanding and compassion but can it really replace humans?

I have AI summaries at the top of google searches but it's rare that I really use it for anything else. Does anyone else use it and what do you use it for? I can see the benefits of it but feel like we still need a human connection which AI can't replace.

I think AI definetly has its good side and bad side.

I read a really interesting article the other day about the dangers of using Chat GPT for mental health support rather than going to a trained professional. It was very eye opening because I know a lot of people use Chat GPT as a place to vent and talk about their struggles.

I really hope it doesn't replace humans all together as it cannot replicate human connection which we need!!

I think ChatGPT can be really useful but it's definitely concerning how people can use it to write things for them. People can become too reliant on it and lose literacy and critical thinking skills. Some people already use AI as a therapist but I don't think it'd ever replace real people. I do often wish for a simpler time. I'm very grateful I didn't grow up with the internet and instagram!

I think even worse than replacing humans is what AI is already doing, which is confusing people about reality, meaning people are increasingly confused as to what is real and what is not. AI picking away at the very fibres of reality is the worst imaginable scenario. Psychosis is by definition being out of touch with reality. I have experienced episodic full-blown psychosis since my teens, and I can tell you that what is happening now and where we're heading on this path is in fact the worst possible scenario. In my opinion based on my experience. For what it's worth.

I think the trouble with AI, and especially using it as a therapist, is often that it tells you what you want to hear. When you speak to a trained person, they'll tell you when what you're doing or saying isn't helpful.

If you're just using AI, it might be comforting but it's probably not going to help you get out of bad mental health patterns and things. It depends what you're hoping to get out of it though! I can see how it might help you feel less lonely if talking to real people is difficult.

I think it's good used as a tool, but not as a replacement for humans. And definitely not as a replacement for human creativity.
