Pip phone call assessment
I have a Pip phone call assessment in two weeks time and I would like to do a recording of my assessment. Is it better to tell the assessor I am recording or shall I just record the assessment without informing the assessor

I always think it is best to tell the assessor if you plan on recording the assessment😊1 -
I would tell the assessor but I would also contact the assessment provider and ask that they also record it. They will then send you a copy of the recording.

In the UK it’s not illegal to record a phone call without telling them, as long as it’s for your own use but doing it this way isn't usually helpful as it isn't normally accepted as evidence. It's also important to know that the official assessor and DWP guidance states you should ask in advance and if they find out you are recording without consent they can stop the assessment.
If you want a recording that’s officially recognised, the safest option is to ask the assessment provider in advance for them to record the call and send you a copy.

I was under the impression that the health professionals automatically record the assessment so is it better rather than record myself to ring them up before my assessment and tell them to send me a copy of the audio I was going to ask them for a copy of the report anyway, depending on the outcome

I understand that health professionals don't automatically record the assessment you need to ask that this be recorded. If you request that they record it they will send you a copy.

hi i just rang the assessment people as they said in letter to confirm telephone number. they have noted i want it recorded but said to remind the health professional i want it recorded, at the start of the assessment. I also asked if I could record it too and person on phone said yes but advise the health professional at the start. I want belt and braces approach!

Do DWP ALWAYS tell you that they are recording a phonecall ?
And why is DWP's recording accepted as officially recognised when ours is NOT ?
Sorry - but I would record but tell them at the end …..
That way - you are TELLING THEM but might catch them out prior to this.

If they record you I'm pretty sure they are 100% meant to tell you

It's important to inform them beforehand. If you record and don't inform them beforehand it cannot typically be accepted by any other party (from a legal perspective).
