Hello! My name is Andrea and I am a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Surrey.

I’m inviting people to take part in a research study exploring how individuals aged 65 or above who experience loneliness relate to nostalgic memories from the past.

This research is supported by Age UK Surrey and has received ethical approval from the University of Surrey Faculty Ethics Committee.

Participation involves taking part in an 45-60 min interview with me, either on the phone or via MS Teams. During this conversation, you would be invited to talk about your own experience of loneliness, to share some nostalgic memories from your past and reflect on how these make you feel. You do not have to talk about anything you don’t want to, and anything you share will be kept confidential.

You would get a £20 voucher as a “thank you” for taking part.

You can take part if:

  • You are 65 years old or over
  • You live in the UK and are fluent in English
  • You sometimes experience feelings of loneliness

You would not be able to take part if:

  • You have a diagnosis of dementia, or
  • You are currently experiencing significant mental health difficulties that might make taking part difficult or distressing

Taking part if completely voluntary and you can choose to withdraw from the study at any point and up until 2 weeks following the interview.

If you would like to know more, or are interested in participating you can:

Thank you very much for reading!

Andrea
