Meniscus
Hi about 7 years ago while squatting down to take a tray from the oven I stood up heard a pop and felt excruciating pain in my knee but it only lasted a minute, well my GP referred me to physio who said I had a minor meniscus tear and with excersis and walking it went away until a few months ago it happened again and since then it happens regularly but always pops back .Im always careful now when bending but 2 hours ago it popped but this time it never went back so my son's both personal trainers got me to lie down and I'm icing and resting it since. I still can't put pressure on it I can't stand or lift my leg without excruciating pain . I am hoping with rest it will be ok🤞 anyone with a similar injury that can advise me id appreciate it. Thanks

Sorry, no advice, just want to wish you well soon. That sounds mighty painful.

#@Angelannie -1971,
I am no expert but I had a meniscus tear surgery last year. I would suggest that you need to ask your GP to refer you for an ultra sound to see if this is the case with you, especially since you have previous history of an injury. An X-Ray will not see the soft tissue sufficiently to confirm your suspicions, however, that is often the initial investigation that protocol seems to follow these days. A Physiotherapist may be able to suspect a meniscus tear after little or no improvement with exercise alone and in some instances refer you to an Orthopaedic Surgeon. However, you may need to be seen by your GP to commence the protocol process.
If it helps, the surgery is usually done as a Day Case and the tear treated via an Arthroscope (minimally invasive ). I would recommend that you do seek advise via GP since they can assess your knee and begin the investigative process. Waiting times can vary, in my experience it can take several weeks to get an appointment. That said each individual will be assessed on their personal pain and mobility issues, also waiting times can be lengthy unless the evidence indicates otherwise. Just wanted you to be prepared.
My son is also waiting for an appointment for suspected similar injury, his Physiotherapist has referred him to a Consultant directly (believe) and has been advised that it may take up 10-12 weeks before he receives an appointment with a Consultant. I hope this is helpful to you. If I can 'help' further through my personal experience, I will chat via this service, providing it doesn't break with the Rules. Good luck!
