PIP a living hell.

Hello all, I can't sleep and need to feel like I'm doing something rather than going around in circles. A missive for those with heavy eyelids.

I submitted my review in Feb 2025, and it was done a year later. I got the letter today. They've reduced my rate to standard living, and no mobility. Whilst I didn't expect to get mobility as the problem I have will hopefully get better after surgery later in the year, removal of the daily living component has shocked me.

They've clearly copied and pasted DWP standard phrases in "My decision" that makes little sense and does not reflect my actual living experience. They also claimed to have given me the lower rate for longer - 2 years - when I was previously awarded the higher rate for 5 years.

I have a complex medical history that GPs wince at and fail to grasp in an hour, so a nurse on the phone who only has tick boxes has no chance. I sent in over 90 pages of medical information which supports points that were scored as zero. I feel physically sick.

They immediately reduced my payments, before I can submit the mandatory consideration. I've never heard of that happening. After cancer, I lost my job, then I had brain surgery (amongst other things), then I was told I was unfit for work but regardless, they've taken my points and reduced my benefit. Make it make sense.

I have already completed the Mandatory Reconsideration, ready for posting later today. I had to do this before, when they removed all 15 points to zero and refused to budge. A few weeks after I opted to go to a tribunal, a caller offered me a reduced rate for less years based on evidence she made up on the spot that featured nowhere on my return. I called her bluff and asked if she had my paperwork there? When she confirmed she did, I told her she would be well aware of the problems I listed and that I would be happy to continue to a tribunal. She asked me if she could ring me back. less than 10 minutes later, she offered me the higher rate for 5 years if I would agree.

These agencies are clearly taking advantage of the disabled to hit reduction targets from the DWP. It's obvious. The judges acknowledge this in parliamentary discussions.

Thankfully I made an audio recording of this year's review, with their agreement. So not only do I have documented evidence the office manager has ignored, I have the audio to support it as well. As much as it will make me cringe to reply it to strangers, I would in a tribunal if necessary.

I would very much like to hear that miracles are possible, and that despite the odds others have reclaimed their PIP. Sometimes all you need is a speck of light to keep the fire burning.

Time for diazepam I think. My brain is whizzing at a million miles and hour and I need rest. Thank you for reading.

Sleep well.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this @BlackSkiesAhead, but thank you for sharing with us. It sounds very unfair and stressful, but it's also good that you've got solid evidence and your MR ready. Many people do get their award put right when it’s properly reviewed, so fingers crossed for you and I hope you manage to get some rest tonight.

Thank you for replying Adrian, I appreciate it. I did get a few hours sleep thankfully.

I have to admit this floored me. I had to get in touch with mental health services this morning, I'm not a weak person but I've no support and there's only so much any person can take before breaking. I posted the MR, I've little hope and convinced I'll have to go to tribunal. Just going to have to take one day at a time.

I’m convinced their gonna take away my enhanced mobility at review as I have moved from supported accommodation (mental health conditions) to a council flat with floating support and I think they are going to say I have improved which I haven’t, the lengthy review process is very detrimental to mental health, preparing to live without the financial support and worry about how to cope financially, I have sent solid evidence however but there is no telling with the dwp which way it will go, sending you strength to get through it, it certainly takes its toll doesn’t it

Unfortunately they'll do almost anything to avoid having to pay physical money out these days.
