Hi Everyone.

My partner and I are newbies to UC. We began a claim in December and my partner has just applied for LCWRA.

I am currently out of work and hope in the future to get something part time that fits alongside Caring.

Should I find work that fits the schedule would this income directly affect LCWRA?

Many Thanks.

UC is a benefit made up of different elements. First your entitlement is added up, then any deductions are made.

If you have a dependent child on the claim, or if you don't and he is awarded LCWRA you'll have what's known as a work allowance on the claim.

This is the amount of money you can earn per month before UC make their standard deduction of 0.55p for every pound earned.

If you claim Housing Element the amount you can earn before deductions is £411.

If you are not claiming HE, it is £684.

You can try a benefits calculator to model various scenarios.

Thanks so much for the clarity. I had struggled to understand UC.
