Possible Overpayment

Hi,

I posted this under my other post so not sure if that was correct or if I needed to put it in a new post as I am doing here. Apologies for posting twice.

I received a letter today with the heading “Your claim for ESA”.

Underneath it says “This arrears payment has not been sent or credited to you as we are holding details of a possible overpayment. We are checking whether any recovery must be made. Arrears payments due will be sent to you as soon as possible and we will tell you why money has been held back.”

I was getting ESA Contribution based and income related ESA with my husband added to my claim some years ago. Nothing has changed recently except for being migrated over to Universal Credit. Do you think this is anything to do with this?

Thank you for any advice or insight what this might be about.

Molly

    Hi,

There might have been a crossover period where you got paid ESA and UC for the same week. So they are just checking and correcting for that now.

It did happen to me although my migration took longer than most so was expected.

They could have also picked up on a historical overpayment with something like Tax Credits, this often happens when people migrate to UC.

Thank you so much OverlyAnxious and Kimi for your replies.

They have reassured me. The letter just unnerved me a bit even though I thought it was something to do with the UC migration.
