Carers allowance and esa

We were claiming universal credit until last year when we inherited. I cancelled our uc claim and my husband still gets contibution based esa and pip, and I receive carers allowance.
A relative has told me we should have cancelled the esa claim when the inheritance came through, and that carer's allowance should stop the esa payments as we can't claim both at the same time.
Is he correct? He's scared the heck out of me now 😳

No he's wrong.
New Style ESA is not means tested, they are generally only interested in pension income.
You are still eligible to claim Carers Allowance (not means tested) for your Husband due to his PIP (not means tested).
