Having copd, through work. I am unable to work since 23, with hypermobility syndrome disorder etc. I had to go back to the doctors to have a 2nd lot of stronger antibiotics, due to a chest infection which those with lung problems get. The doctor asked if I work. When I said no. The look of distain on her face. I explained I also have this hypermobility syndrome disorder and in pain. I once had to phone up for a fit note over a year ago. Spoke to the same doctor, she said oh people with copd do work.

I felt terrible, after coming out of the surgery. Ashamed in case of thinking I was a scrounger. Its not fun being like this. Considering I got copd through cleaning.

    Hi @Andi66 this doctor has no right to make you feel ashamed, they are not there to judge you.

    When you go to the doctors you go for their help to make you feel better not to come out feeling worse.

    Are there a few doctors at your surgery, perhaps you could ask for a different one next time.

    Never feel ashamed only you know how your condition affects your life.

    Please take care of yourself.

    Thank you for your replies . Yes unless people living with these conditions they have no ideal what it's like to live with. You don't get better with both of these. Just have to manage with it. One of my sister died from copd a few years ago so that's on my mind . The doctor don't know you and just scroll through your notes. With getting the other benefit .it will be a hassle and you have a medical and knowing the dwp would not make it easy. Even though I have been diagnosed by the copd nurse

    I'm so sorry the Dr treated you like this @Andi66, it's not right at all. Try not to let it get to you, as you've said, she doesn't know how your condition affects you each day. It's already been suggested, but I think it could be good to see a different Dr next time if you can.
