The first picture is definitely the creepiest for me @StarryEyed. I think it's waterslides in general that get me! It's now desensitising me but I like the feeling of being creeped out by them. I guess it's like watching a horror film knowing you're going to get scared but you still want to experience it. I must say this is my favourite thread on here!

Here's my picture for today. I would love to know more about this house and who lived there.

Thanks Rachel. What makes me think about it as a Heaven's Interior is it just has that same kind of feel to it as other Heaven's Interior pictures.

They're kind of different from liminal spaces. They still have a very off feeling about them but not all of them are liminal, they tend to not look as empty, and they have ugly decor, some are very clean while others are very dirty, most are much creepier than liminal spaces and kind of disturbing imo.

Why they're called Heaven's Interior I don't know, but it's a really creepy name which suits the pictures I think. The person who coined the term also came up with the name room hole for these pictures which makes more sense.

Here's a link to her blog where you can see many of these pictures:

I don't find it heavenly at all, quite the opposite! The name was created by a woman back in 2009 who created a blog on tumblr showing the pictures, if I remember correctly I think she had took some pictures herself, posted them on there, and then started looking for similar pictures online and started posting them on there as well, and then when she left tumblr her mum took over, her mum said 'One of my favorite things to pass the time away. I spend hours looking for the perfect room to share with everyone.'

I don't think I've ever found any liminal space/heaven's interior/room hole pictures scary, but I did find some of them felt very disturbing and would give me a weird unpleasant feeling that would linger for a long time afterwards, that being said at the same time I would sometimes feel fascinated by them, especially after having a drink which made them not feel as disturbing, and I'd start browsing them, over time I got desensitised to them and now while I can recognise that some of them do indeed look very disturbing I don't actually feel disturbed by them.

Another liminal space which also doubles as a Heaven's Interior/room hole.

Oh ok that makes more sense now. I thought you meant it literally looks like heaven! That website won't work for me but I've managed to find some of their pictures elsewhere and I'm very intrigued. This picture feels very cold to me and I'd love to know its backstory. The carpet in this is definitely dirty!

Yup, that's definitely one of them!

Maybe this link will work instead. @roomhole on Tumblr

It's saying I need an account, but it got me further than the last link! I'll have to sign up later and have a look through. Looks right up my street.

Why does this one make me feel so uncomfortable?

So many frills! I wonder if the discomfort comes from it being a bedroom which is a typically very private place? Again, this one feels cold to me. I don't think I'd get a good night's sleep here.

I guess it's because it's so unusual compared to how bedrooms look in the UK, almost alien, and it looks as though it could belong to a really strict religious household, I could imagine the kids that live there being made to read the bible and being given the belt or something. So when I imagine myself being there, how I would feel, it just seems like it'd feel really uncomfortable mentally.

That's a really interesting perspective and I completely agree. I guess it's the unknown of who lives in this bedroom.

This makes me uncomfortable because the bed is at a wrong angle.

That one is a classic, Rachel, I've seen it before, it's quite a well known one. I wonder what the story is with the bed being like that? It looks like it would fit and if not the drawers could just be moved a bit over to the left so it does. Or maybe someone used photoshop to make the bed look like that?

I'm thinking what is unsettling or creepy to one person may not be to the next. Also maybe it's worth noting it's good to use desensitisation therapy for phobias for example, but not good to get desensitised to other things.

Me too, Catherine. I'm learning in this thread. It's very interesting. If you have a Pinterest account you can explore a lot of liminal categories there, if you're interested.

While liminal I also think of this as a Heaven's 'Exterior', a term that I came up with myself.

That is so awesome and beautiful and unsettling and extremely uninviting!!! Did you make that? A what pray tell (๐Ÿ˜) is Heaven's Exterior?

    Some thoughts to ponder.....

No, I didn't make it, I found it on Google image search, looks like something I could imagine seeing in an 80's a horror movie, all that's missing is some fog rising up from around the cross. ๐Ÿ˜Š

A Heaven's Interior is an exterior which has that same kind of vibe to it.

The thing with a lot of these liminal space pictures is that for me the place itself looks alive somehow, like it could be aware of itself, almost like it's some kind of being. I don't know if anyone else who is into liminal spaces can relate, maybe it's just me.

So I got ChatGPT to alter the picture so there's now actual fog coming up from around the cross, now it's even more like something out of an 80's horror movie. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Or how about a glowing red cross?

Yes, Ross, I totally get what you mean that these places seem alive. Definitely. Never thought of that until now. Very insightful observation. I think that might be the biggest creepy or scary layer - an unseen, imagined being. It's like adding a new layer to that old saying "if these walls could talk".

Catherine, the nostalgia liminal spaces sometimes totally freak me out as they're typically set in the 70s, when my childhood trauma was really bad. So it is super triggering. Is that possible with you too? If you're uncomfortable answering of course please skip the question.

But maybe I can make that triggering material work for me. I'm thinking of maybe using those images as a form of self-therapy, like perhaps desensitisation therapy like we just talked about. Still thinking about how to do it. I have a couple of ideas I'm working with.

Anyway. I'm way off track.... As we tend to do here on the forum. The Long and Winding Road of the forum. ๐Ÿ˜Š

On the topic of heaven, these are some beauts listed as "heaven liminal spaces" on Pinterest...

Ah, we were writing at the same time. Love the crosses. Excellent. Fog adds effect to everything. And Christmas red is gorgeous anywhere ๐Ÿ˜
