LCWRA not being established before post 19 course started
Not being benefit savvy and having worked all my life college told me my son who has Down’s syndrome is profoundly deaf and non verbal could claim UC in his own right. I applied for UC for my son in March2026 he turned 19 on 26/08/2025 and started a 3 year course on 2nd September 2025. UC have closed his claim as he doesn’t have LCWRA. I have now applied for credit only ESA but how do I meet the break in education rules so that he can claim UC

Students and UC are a complex area to give advice on, I'd recommend contacting Disability Rights UK who have a Disabled Students Helpline.

Hi @Fieldsey and a warm welcome to the community from me!
Like Kimi said that, studying and UC is a very complex area so it's definetly worth reaching out to the Disabled Students helpline. I hope you manage to get it sorted soon😊
It's lovely to have you here and I hope you enjoy your time on the community0
