Reporting Rent Increase to UC

Hello,

I got a letter a couple of weeks ago from the council. I am in Social Housing, telling me if I am on Universal Credit to tell them of my rent increase. It said to do this on 13th April. I would like to know how to do this? I get LCWRA and migrated over last year so I have never had to do this. Why do I need to wait until 13th April? Thank You for any replies.

    Please see advice given here:

    The UC system can't handle future changes as that's the way it was designed. They can only deal with changes that have happened.

    Go by the date your landlord has told you.

    First time doing mine too. Its to be done on 6th April, i guess all areas are different. I'm not entirely sure but perhaps they stagger the dates so they aren't inundated with rent increases at one time, I know you also can't report any changes in advance as the system isn't set up for future changes. Maybe others on here will know a lot more about it than I do. I only went over from iresa last Nov myself. It'll all work out OK. They'll send you a prompt on your uc journal to say when to add the changes far as I know. Take care x

    @Silver925 It will flag up on your UC journal asking you to add new rent amount.

    Thank You for your reply. I just get anxious as I get LCWRA I think they won't bother to send me a link. Just my anxious state I suppose. If they don't I will phone the help line.

    It's covered in the thread I linked to.

    A To Do will appear on your Journal the first week of April.

    Your rent is going up on 13th April, so you use the To Do to report your new rent amount on or after that date.

    Because you live in social housing, UC will then get your LL to confirm the amount.

    LL is your landlord.

    No, due to you living in social housing all you need to do is report the new rent amount using the To Do.

    Universal Credit themselves will then contact your landlord to confirm the amount you've declared is correct.

    Hi,

    I had the "report rent changes" to do task on my to do list today. My HA sent me a text reminder but i didn't get an email from UC saying I had a new task on my to do list. It doesnt matter as i knew i had to log in and check and report the annual rent increase but should i have had a reminder from UC themselves?

    Hooe this makes sense. V confused as usual.

    UC seems to be hit & miss with communications which is frustrating.

    Hi,

    I've had one or two journal messages without an email notification. I think it's just a glitch in the system. One of the UC commitments that we all agreed to is to check the journal regularly, so they are not actually responsible for any missed notifications.

    Ok. Thanks for reply. Glad its not just me that didnt get an email notification.

    I do sign in once a week and make sure there's nothing new for me to do. I assume this is regularly enough?

    My do to list also asked me to fill in the "your accessability needs". I assume this is standard as well?

    Yes, once a week is recommended.

    I don't think many people check that regularly though, so you're doing better than most! 🙂
