Your help is needed: Disable Barriers, Not People
You might have seen Scope’s recent Facebook post about how self-checkout tills in shops can be inaccessible. This can create another barrier for disabled people.
Scope are working on a new piece of campaigning work called ‘disable barriers, not people’. We’re looking for other examples of barriers that disabled people experience when living their everyday life. These barriers can be physical or caused by the attitudes of other people. We want to share these experiences in the words of people who experience them.
If there are any barriers you experience in your daily life that you want to raise awareness of, please fill in this form. The form asks if Scope can use your answers for campaigning and marketing purposes. We are not asking for any personal information. If you give any identifiable information in your answers, we will remove it before using your responses.

I hate self service Tills in general, if I'm buying certain stuff, such as Dad's annual bottle of Scotch Whisky in October, I have to flag down a human to verify I'm over 18 (I wouldn't mind but I'm 50 today for Christ sake so I'm definitely over 21 and look it) which defeats the purpose of SELF service.

Self service seems to mean waltzing out the door with whatever takes one's fancy!

I actually liked self-service tills, they made shopping much less stressful for me. (Irrelevant now as I haven't been able to get to a shop in the last 5 years).
The barrier I often face is reading the words 'just call this number'. I don't know how that's even still a thing in the internet age!
(Regarding the Waitrose story. He had previously been told not to tackle shoplifters as they could be carrying knives etc. He purposely contravened a direct instruction from the employer, who would be responsible if he got injured or even died at work.)

Indeed, and unfortunately the security staff don't get paid enough to tackle anyone who's on the nick.

At least Iceland have offered this man a job. Waitrose appear to have lost a good employee.

Waitrose are the Harrod's of Supermarkets, I'm too common to work for them, although to be fair, at the moment I'd take almost anything as long as I can physically do it.
