Out of date tinned food?
what can i do with out of date tinned/jars of food? Some is 10 years old and is clearly inedible.

Empty the contents into a bin bag & throw away, wash & recycle the containers.

I would place the contents in your food recycling caddy but are you sure it's 'off'? I have eaten tinned food a number of years past the use by date!

Not sure I'd want to open them at all, depending on what's in them?
If it's meat and there was even a minor defect in the canning process the smell would be awful by now. I would just put them in the normal bin as they are tbh.
Where I live none our waste goes to landfill though. It gets incinerated to produce electricity. And the ash is then 'fished' to pick out any magnetic metals such as steel food cans. That then gets recycled elsewhere.

My tins are dated to 2030-2031, there's that much mackerel and tuna I understand why there's a shortage in the sea 🌊 😪. No water though so might still die of thirst if that's cut off 🤣😂.

Hhhh i got waterstraws if grid went down you use these water straws in lakes rivers ect it filters all toxins out ive got the lot crank radio powerbank cable ties duck tape ps all to tape windows doors dust sheets oh yes loads of tuna im not a fan but good emergencies got loads of freeze dried coffee loads of celtic sea salt all supplys

I don’t think it’s a good idea to eat stuff that is very out of date, my oh has cancer and I’m not in the best of health, I’m not prissy I had quiche last night dated 4 days ago worst case scenario is I get stuck on the toilet, but for my oh it could be dangerous or land him in hospital.
A few years ago I opened an out of date tin of soup the horrible smell that came from it made me wretch.

Indeed, I once made a coffee with some milk that was 1 day out of date and ended up with bad Diarhorrea, same thing happened when I went for a coffee in a Cafe in Hillsborough Precinct, they used that UHT milk and that gave me the runs as well.

Nobody is bring forced to eat out of date food. If it doesn't pass the sniff test, stick it into the food caddy or compost bin etc.

Or feed it to the Cat or Dog, they'll eat almost anything.

I remember years ago going to do some tree work for an older gentleman, made us a cup of tea before we started. I was the only one who didn't notice the lumps in the tea … they were quick enough to dump it in a stream … too late he came back … I sipped it politely and ever so delicately 😁

coffee is well known for causing an upset stomach, milk keeps past its best before date in the fridge by at lest a few days. Best before dates are getting shorter on fresh food but I’ve got tins and jars.
I’m not feeding my immunocompromised OH anything that’s risky although he would eat it if I let him.

my OH is immunocompromised so although he would eat stuff that was already out of date I’m not going to take any chances, he’s sick enough! And selfishly I couldn’t live with myself if I made him sicker or worse.
