What does the food bit mean in a PIP form?
mine came back, i told them i struggle to cook because of sensory problems with certain foods because im ausitic. i struggle with meat/rough veg. and for some reason im prone to accidents with a knife. but that’s not really to do with my autism. but anyways. i’m wondering if this is right? they asked me on the phone i said the same thing but then they asked if i can make cereal/toast. which i can do, so my pip report has come back with 0 because i can make toast? i thought it was “fresh ingredients” cut and prepare.. which i cannot do unless i don’t touch anything. so yeah im just wondering? are they correct for 0 because i can make toast/cereal? thanks

Hi,
They shouldn't be classing toast as 'a meal' but unfortunately the guidelines do leave them some discretion. They will even use things like holding a console controller to prove that you could use a vegetable peeler.
With Autism you are likely to score more points for other sections (mixing with people, for example), so that is where I'd focus for the MR personally.

If you can feed yourself without a carer/support staff member etc helping you, they'll class you as independent.
It sucks but them's the breaks.
