hello and thanks for letting me join. our current situation is we private rent a 2 bed semi detached house with beds and bathroom upstairs in scotland. i suffer arthritis and badly worn discs in my back which cause me a lot of pain and restlessness. i also have adhd, copd and anxiety. i also have severe tinnitus and cannot sleep in a quiet room, i need background noise to calm my head and ears a bit. my wife also has sleep apnea and snores very loudly. all this combined means i have been sleeping on the sofa for several years now and the sofa is very uncomfortable and adding to by back problems. my mental and physical health are suffering a lot due to this. also i need aids to help me in the bathroom but currently can only use a bath seat due to the house design which makes washing and using the toilet very difficult and painful.

we have applied for council housing and the medical assessment section was submitted but they only gave us medical grade B and 163 points with a ground floor and no more than 3 steps, 2-bed general needs house.

i tried explaining on the medical form how all this is causing me even more suffering and how a third bedroom would improve my health a lot due to the above reasons but i dont think i explained very well. how could i submit another medical priority form and word it better or would it be possible for universal credits to increase our allowance to a 3 bed as currently we cant afford to private rent a 3 bed.

im pretty sure i have forgot some info as usual but i can add more if anyone wants more info

Hi @Cooper73. I think the best course of action would be to contact your council again to make them aware of this, and see if you can get a new medical form submitted. You could also ask your GP to write a letter of support which might help your case too. Hope you're able to get something sorted.

thank you i have asked my gp surgery for a list of all my illnesses etc but they want £90 for that and also said they have told councils not to ask people to ask gp's for supporting evidence. i will try to resend an updated medical form that i will fill in myself as i think the citizens advice person who done it for me previously missed a lot or didnt word it correctly.

im mostly looking for some advice now that would help me word it better so i dont accidentally understate our position

Blimey, that's a hefty charge! That's not a bad idea, hopefully they'll be able to revisit it based on the new form.

We normally suggest either Citizens Advice or Turn2us for an advisor to support but appreciate the last time you didn't have the best outcome. If you did decide to go back to Citizen's Advice could you ask them to add this extra detail once you've got it all together?

thank you again and i will ask them again next week when i can attend their drop in centre near me.

i think the fee is to access all my medical records which i dont really need but today i found out about an emergency care summary that my gp might print out for free
