Getting a job with autism
Dear scope community,
I need some advice and guidance please.
High functioning adult female with autism here.
How do I get a job with no qualifications, no degree and no work experience?
I left school with failed gcse’s, I suck at math I think I might actually have dyscalculia
If I was at least good at something I could go from there but I don’t think I’m good at anything and I have no idea what I’d like to do
This is my problem
My family describe me as kind and caring but also introverted, reserved and quiet, which doesn’t make me feel good about myself.
I was late diagnosed with autism so had I had more support during school maybe I would’ve done better, and I wasn’t given any support after my diagnosis.
I feel so useless and irrelevant

Another thing, when I have looked for voluntary roles, the descriptions say they need people with a background or prior experience in something :(

@SheffieldMan1976 sorry to hear that,
seems like we’ve had similar experiences and going through the same thing
I did actually try working two jobs before (pre autism diagnosis) but literally only last a week at both so I thought it would be unnecessary to mention it. I had a meltdown at those jobs basically having panic attacks every day while also trying to mask and appear normal. I just thought F this and left,
and they never chased after me so I figure they didn’t care
I’m 28 and feel ashamed that I’m ‘not doing anything with my life’
I’ve basically isolated myself from meeting new people because of it
