ESA advice please
I’ve taken voluntary redundancy from my employment and will be receiving a lump sum but have been told that I might be able to apply for contribution related ESA, I’ve had a look online and I’m a bit confused, is it means tested? I do plan to work but not for a few months as need some time out as it’s been a really difficult time which has affected me a lot health wise, I do get PIP already but can anyone give me any advice/guidance please

Looking in to claiming New Style JSA if you are well and going to be looking for work or claim New Style ESA if you have a health condition which limits the work you can do or stops you from working.
Call Citizens Advice Help to Claim helpline for a full benefits check to make sure you're not missing out on any other benefits. Advisers are available 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday: 0800 144 8 444 (closed Bank Holidays).
When your on the phone you can also ask about New Style JSA or New Style ESA. Sometimes they can also refer you on to the local office for further help.

Hi,
New Style ESA is not means tested with regards to savings.
However it does have restrictions on working. You can do Permitted Work which you must declare before starting. No more than 16 hours per week. And no more than ~£200 per week.
If your total capital is less than £16,000 then you can apply for Universal Credit instead. If you live with a partner then you would need to claim as a couple, and their circumstances will also be taken into account.

thank you, I’ll look into that, I don’t think I’d be entitled to any other benefits at the moment but was confused around the JSA/ESA, I am going to look for work but also need to be selective because of my health situation which is confusing me as to which way to go, but I’ll get in touch with citizens advice as per your suggestion 😊
