Universal Credit and paying money off someone's mortgage.

Hello Can I pay some money off someone's mortgage if the person is in receipt of universal credit, if I pay money direct to mortgage lender and write a letter saying it is a non repayable gift. Planning to cash in some of my private pension shortly so would use this money, or premium bonds, not sure which yet. Is there anything I need to be considering if I do this? Thank you

Hi,
Yes, that's fine as long as the money doesn't go into the bank account of the Universal Credit claimant.
If you're on means tested benefits yourself then it could cause a problem for you though.
