I was overpaid uc, and paid today 11th May, over £200 back through bank transfer. Stupidly I put uc overpayment instead of my national insurance number. Would they be able to trace it.i phone tomorrow. Worried sick, how stupid I am

They may be able to trace it if you give them the payment transfer details. They won't be able to link it to your account without your input though, as there could be hundreds of people who share your name, and people can pay other people's debts too. So you will need to contact them or see if your bank can recall the payment.

    🤞you get it sorted

Yes I just contacted them, they said they can't do anything for a month. To ring back on the 11th. Also had to put a payment plan on for the remainder . Either wise dwp may take more out until its sorted. I have put a note on my journal in the payment section to explain this

Give them a call after 9, they should be able to sort it if you explain the error.

And you're not daft, everyone makes mistakes.

Don't worry @Andi66, we all make mistakes. I'm sure they'll be able to trace it to you as it will include your name and account details. If there are any issues, which I don't think there will be, you can always prove you sent the money by providing your bank statement.

She said I have to wait until the 11th to give details like account. I ring again tomorrow to speak to someone else. I have written this on my journal. No one seems to read or answer though

Hopefully they'll get back to you or the person tomorrow might be able to give you more information. I'm sure it'll all get sorted.

The debt management team don't have access to the journal or your account. They're completely separate from the general UC staff.

If they can't link your payment for whatever reason then it should get returned to you. When I paid two separate overpayments, it turns out one was an error and I should only have paid once. I didn't even realise at the time. But a few weeks later one was refunded without me doing anything at all.
