Hi, my name is Rainbow50! When can I claim carer's element of UC?
Hi,
I made a claim for my grandma on 1st May for attendance allowance. We are still waiting to hear back from them. If she is successful, can I claim carers element of UC from the date we applied for attendance allowance (so would be back dated), or does it go from the date it is awarded?

Hi welcome to the community.
I'm not sure if rules have changed but I know people claiming attendance allowance and its to be used to pay for care or help needed so no carers element was allowed to be claimed by anyone looking after them.

Caring for someone getting Attendance Allowance is a qualifying benefit to be awarded UC Carers Element.
It should be backdated to the date she applied for AA. You should use that date when reporting the change.
UC might ask why you are reporting the change "late".
