UK Heat Warning 🔥
With this heat warning over the bank holiday, we just wanted to share some information from the NHS website that might be helpful.
Please take care of yourselves and one another. 💜
Actions you can take to stay safe in hot weather
While many people enjoy warmer summer weather, hot weather can cause some people to become unwell through overheating (becoming uncomfortably hot), dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
- if you are going to do a physical activity (for example exercise or walking the dog), plan to do these during times of the day when it is cooler such as the early morning or the evening
- keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun
- drink plenty of fluids and limit your alcohol intake
- check on family, friends and neighbours who may be at higher risk of becoming unwell, and if you are at higher risk, ask them to do the same for you
- know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and what to do if you or someone else has them
- Try to avoid direct sunlight, especially between 11am and 3pm when UV levels are highest
- If you are going out during this time, cover up with suitable clothing, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen liberally and re-apply frequently

Hard to believe we are on the same island, I am glad to have 'only' 20C, down to a comfortable 12C in the night.
This is a strange experience for me, as most of the year I am wishing it was as mild as down south!

It's the hottest day here today 32 33. It was too much yesterday at 29

This is ideal bank holiday weekend and half-term weather so I'm very happy for everyone enjoying themselves outdoors this week!

This is the problem with brick built properties. Once the bricks absorb the heat, they hold onto it. It's not possible to permanently cool the interior quickly using windows or a fan, it takes several days of cooler weather for the brick temperature to drop before the room temperature drops. I'm always hoping I never have to endure another British summer trapped in an overheated flat, but here we are again.

Exactly so - living under the roof of a brick building is no fun during a heatwave!
Despite record-breaking temperatures for two days last week, last May's heatwave was worse because it lasted longer and the building had no chance to cool down.

Well, it's milder today. Still enjoying a Mr Freeze ice pop though.

In southern countries, they paint the exterior walls of houses white. They must know something there...

Where I live, we only get a handful of 'hot' days, that rarely reach 30C. This problem will reach us all eventually, but luckily the best minds on the planet are working on it. 🤥
