Seen someone complaining that £1500 isnt enough so what is? should benefit claimants be able to get more than working people?

how much do you need to cover your monthly bills and basics like food?

    there's so much wrong with the initial arguments in this topic, the actual question itself is a dead cat.

    1. it's not "benefit claimants" vs "working people."
    2. everyone whether, on benefits or not, do not have enough money, because the government and their rich mates have stolen everyone else's wealth
    3. many people on benefits also work, especially UC claimants. Moreover, PIP is not an out-of-work benefit
    4. It's impossible to work if you have multiple caring responsibilities, which usually costs more money, so in some cases, the is unironically be yes

    Some people never have enough, and have a sense of entitlement that's off the scale.

    It pains me to say this but it's the likes of them who give genuine people who can't get a job for love nor money a bad name.

    They've resigned themselves to a lifetime on benefits, at the expense of the State according to some people….

    It is very, very hard to quantify how much is enough to live on as everybody's circumstances are different. For example, one families rent/mortgage may be £1800 whereas another families may be £800 so £1500 for one family won't even cover that.

    Life also costs more when you are disabled as Disability Price Tag 2025 findings show that disabled households need an extra £1,095 each month on average. This is just to have the same standard of living as non-disabled households @oldmanmarple. You can read more about that here.

    As a single person, no longer able to drive, trapped in unsuitable accommodation with no life and no future, I can easily live on £1500 a month.

    I get more than that in benefits. I do not agree that 'everyone doesn't have enough money'. The whole system is wrong. I would reduce that if I was allowed to. But I'm not. While other people have kids and pets and cars and lives and have to scrape pennies together and get into debt just buying the basics. It's not fair at all.

    They're paying me £1583.07 which obviously I'm very grateful for but my rent is nearly £1800 a month alone, how am I meant to pay it, let alone bills or anything else? I don't understand how all this works.

    This is what JanePS told us about her £1500 income. This is clearly not for her living expenses but for rent. Judgemental posts like yours get removed because this is a disability forum for people with disabilities.

    I use a website that gives international cost of living figures. It's quite indepth. Mind you, this is done by contributors, so it's not official. But they're quite good. You can also compare two places.

    I don’t think the benefits system is overly generous.. it is people that prefer to claim rather than work.. then boast about things they can afford( irritates many). We all have different priorities and needs. There is always a bigger picture. Some have help with purchases and so on… some shop used others want new.. some smoke and drink.. and so on and so forth..

    My only gripe is children not getting their needs met by parents that misuse money received for them.

    My rent and community tax are over £900 a month.

    All I'm only entitled to single person council tax reduction and nothing towards my rent.

    Add all my monthly bills on top of that £1500 doesn't cover it.

    isnt it insane that its got to the point that anyone needs that much to live why have rents been allowed to get that high

    Indeed, I get slagged off to great extent purely because I can afford £3.75 a Pint in t'Pub once a week.

    I struggle every month to make benefits stretch

    I don't drink or smoke

    But I have cats and prove of food and litter goes up.
