Need some help and advice ref to universal credit. My partner has been told by universal credit we owe them money from 2024 till 2026 as it was a over payment. She has made a complaint which thay have had since I believe February 2026 and still not delt with it. She has also asked for her call data over a month ago left message on our journey still not received it. My partner is disabled and now going through a real bad time. We have noticed DWP treat those with a disability really bad. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you

Hi @Tiptoe, welcome to the community. Sorry to hear about all that's happened to your partner, that sounds so stressful and it's awful that it's affected her so badly.
Have you had any advice or guidance from any benefits agencies? It may be worth getting in touch with a local benefits adviser to see if they can help at all. There's a search tool here to find advisers:
If you're struggling to get through to UC, it can also sometimes be helpful to get in touch with your local MP or councillors to see if they're able to look into things for you. Sometimes they can help move things along or investigate what's happening on your behalf. You can find your MP here: https://members.parliament.uk/members/commons
Do you believe the over payment was incorrect, or was the complaint about another issue?

Tried the mp and no luck to be honest mp said sadly you got to pay it back. Complaint was about the whole process. All I can say is universal credit is dragging there hells.

Hi,
Do you know what caused the overpayment? Some are easier to calculate than others, which means they take less time overall. If it's not just a simple Element error, but instead something that requires going through years worth of bank statements, then that will take a lot of time unfortunately.
Which stage are you at now? Have you been told how much is owed and are disputing that? Or are you still waiting to hear how much is owed?

It's probably UC's fault you were overpaid in the first place, so it's down to them to sort it, but of course the DWP are a bunch of incompetent clowns who don't even know their own rules.

Still all on going and no luck as yet. Universal credit do not rush. But now we are worried about deta going up and up if we owed it.
