Help shape the Disability Confident Portal
Scope is running a short, anonymous survey to help shape a new Disability Confident digital portal, focused on what genuinely helps with recruiting and retaining disabled people at work.
We’re also inviting people to take part in a short, informal discussion to explore key themes in a bit more depth. If you’d like to share your views, you can complete the survey using this link Disability Confidence Scheme Survey and book directly onto a discussion session here - Scope Disability Confidence scheme - Interview

This sounds like a really positive initiative. It’s great to see efforts being made to better understand what actually helps disabled people in the workplace, especially when it comes to recruitment and long-term support. I think listening to real experiences through surveys and discussions is a good step toward making workplaces more inclusive. Thanks for sharing this opportunity for people to get involved.

Meh, most employers put on the ads "We are a disability confident employer", except the majority of them don't mean it IMO, it's just a legal requirement under the Equality Act 2010 that it's there.

I would agree from personal experience that it doesn't always mean the companies are actually committed to employing disabled people @SheffieldMan1976. I hope we can work towards changing that though ☺️

I applied for over 85 jobs before getting my 1 day, 6 hours a week till job in a farm shop. I suffer massively with my cognition and mobility. And the only thing that I think that made them say yes was that they only asked if I had any health conditions after I got the job role …so places like tesco x7 jobs applied for…nope, sainsbury's x8 jobs applied for ...nope, coop x7 different sites and 13 applications still nope. I have 8 years of food retail customer service and supervisisory experience. But as soon as they saw my stick in the interview they used that to say no.
My job I have, I had an over the phone interview and a 2 hour trial shift. I didn't use any of my walking aids and very luckily could stand without aids that day, got offered my job, I said yes, and then got asked if I have any medical conditions they should know about. They got the health and safety team to see me after that before I started. They have made adaptations and have restrictions for me so it's safe for me to work.

I feel like people still feel uncomfortable about disability therefore, tackling disability discrimination becomes almost impossible if people feel uncomfortable

I've been rejected 3 times so far this week for jobs I could do while asleep nearly.
I've decided to give up the chase for employment and move on to a personal project of potentially learning to drive and getting a Motability car (apparently the Motability scheme funds 40 hours of driving lessons)
I emailed my Coach at Autism Plus yesterday cancelling the appointment next week and all future ones.
