jam first, obviously. creates a proper base so the cream doesn't just slide off into a tragic mess.
if you're putting the cream on first, that's just pure chaos

I don't eat scones and I've spent way too much time thinking about the best way to do it now 😂 I think maybe I'm erring more to the side of cream then jam for stability.

I once read a very well written and characteristically quaint article by Fortnum & Mason (the authority on this if there ever was one) on this subject
After the essay they concluded that there is no correct answer, whatever makes you happy… despite what that relative (everybody has one) insists is the "proper" way!

I alternate it and do jam first on one half first and then cream side on the other half first to see if there is a difference😊
