can someone please help me with self employed question on pip

I have been on pip for around ten years. i get full pip. and i get universal credit. I am fed up of people having a go at disabled people, and i am thinking of going self employed against doctors advice because i want some pride back.

I would not be leaving the house to be self employed, i would be make videos on youtube and basically talk to people about my situation etc.

But i am worried this could affect my Personal Independence payment and when my next pip review comes up next year they may say, well you are now self employed and you dont need full pip and you do not need a car and our help.

without my car i would be housebound and that is what scares me. to go to a pip assessment and then they say you are self employed making videos, you dont need a car and you dont need our help.

i am just wondering if it is worth the risk of trying to go self employed or not.

    No, it shouldn't affect your PIP unless you're doing stuff on your videos which contradicts what you've said on your PIP form/assessment.

    UC is more complicated, but again isn't necessarily a barrier. It would however mean a COC and then a meeting at the JC with for a gateway appointment to discuss SE and also to decide if you're 'gainfully self-employed'. I don't think by the sounds of it you would be classed as such. Then you'd have to report your income & expenses every month.

    One thing I would say is that IF you are going to report a COC to UC that you are self-employed don't do it until you're actually getting some income. Also, once you declare you are SE it will act as a payment blocker until you have the gateway appointment so time it well ie the day after your AP ends, then at least there's plenty of time to attend the appointment & it won't (or shouldn't) impact your next award.

    Good luck btw, I know what you mean about pride n what not. Make sure to put the link on here, I often watch youtube podcasts & the like. xx

    Hi @happywomantoday. I'm sorry that you've been made to feel like this. Make sure you consider your health and don't do anything that would make you feel worse.

    PIP is based on how your condition affects you, not if you work or not, so it shouldn't be affected. Have you looked into how to make videos on YouTube?

    I make the occasional video for YouTube myself, never monitised any though, to be honest I tend to set my footage to private to deter trolling, especially if I'm physically in it.

    You can ask although my understanding is they are face to face.

    The income and expenses is quite a big subject in terms of allowable expenses n what not. Your business model would perhaps be a bit more simple but if you're claiming WFH you have to do some calculations you can't just claim the full amount (number of rooms/hours spent & so on). So I'd say if you can do face to face it would probably be beneficial. It's only a few of the staff who are trained on SE so the agent should be well informed - also means appointments are thin on the ground hence my other advice about timing. x

    @SheffieldMan1976

    So I have to type long hand the user name with @? Is that right? Coz it wouldn't let me copy paste.. annoying. I mean it did this time as you said it in the body of your comment but it wouldn't before, from the post, Sorry if I'm being thick.
